Recognition highlights ZAPP’s power to efficiently deliver payments at scale, reducing friction between payers and providers

Boston, M.A.—June 17, 2025—Zelis, a leading provider of healthcare technology solutions, has been honored with the 2025 Points of Light Award from KLAS Research. The award recognizes Zelis’ transformative efforts to modernize the healthcare financial experience and strengthen payer-provider relationships, evidenced through a partnership with an Arizona-based Integrated Delivery Network (IDN).

The IDN saw an opportunity to streamline processes and improve payment efficiency between its owned health plan and providers within the IDN and outside of it. Its reliance on check-based payments from the health plan to the health system and external providers caused delays, increased administrative burden, data inaccuracies, increased fraud risk, and strained provider relationships—all stemming from a lack of modern digital capabilities and manual processes.

The IDN sought a technology partner to eliminate the payment hassles and inefficiencies and make the process easier for all stakeholders—enhancing collaboration, trust, and transparency. They turned to Zelis, whose deep expertise in both payer complexities and provider challenges helped foster a trusted partnership between the health plan and health system, bringing all parties together to streamline and strengthen the payment experience.

Zelis powers the future of the IDN’s healthcare payments

The IDN implemented Zelis Advanced Payments Platform (ZAPP) to seamlessly deliver payments and data electronically from its plan to providers. The solution reduced administrative burden and inefficiencies, accelerated payment delivery in providers’ preferred format, and fostered greater collaboration within the network and outside of it. The partnership enabled the health plan to deliver more than $500 million in payments to providers, reducing the time for providers to process payments from up to two months to two days.

“At Zelis, we are solving inefficiencies in healthcare payments and improving payer-provider relationships at scale in ways that no one else is. This collaboration truly illustrates the value of digitized payments within a unique setting like an IDN,” said Yusuf Qasim, President, Payments Optimization at Zelis. “Alignment between payers and providers is critical to achieving desired outcomes and this award is testament to our ability to establish and advance collaboration between both parties. It is an honor be recognized alongside our client for their innovation and dedication to modernizing the healthcare financial experience.”

How Zelis created payments value at scale for the IDN

  • Doubled the volume of electronic payments from the health plan to the health system.
  • Reduced the volume of paper checks delivered by the health plan by more than half, resulting in $400,000 in savings as well as diminished waste, inefficiency, and administrative burden.
  • Decreased the volume of paper checks issued, with 80% of payments now delivered digitally. As Zelis improves collaboration and alignment between the health system and other payers, there is a goal to achieve 100% digital payments.
  • Improved communication, collaboration and alignment among the health plan and health system, facilitated by the relationship with and use of Zelis technology.
